North Greenville University football has embarked on a new journey in the 2018 season. This year, NGU became a part of Gulf South Conference. This conference consists of nine football teams within the southeast. In this new conference, NGU will have the chance to go up against prestigious Division 2 teams such as Valdosta State University, West Florida University, and West Georgia University. according to gscsports.com. When asked about the new conference, Jeff Farrington, the head coach of NGU’s football team, had this to say. When asked about the team’s and his own opinion of entering the news conference, he was very positive.

“Our team is extremely excited to be a member of the Gulf South Conference and chance to compete for a conference championship,” he stated. He believes that the competition is fierce, but that they are receiving great support from our administration. “We are excited to see how we compete week to week with our opponents.”

Regarding recruiting, Farrington believes that it is going very well.

“We are on and aware of several talented players in the state and look forward to having them on campus at some point, ” he stated. This is very important for our team moving forward, so it is good to hear that recruiting is going so well. When asked about the future of the team, Farrington told me that “We are beginning the school’s first year ever in one of the most respected football conferences in D2 Football. I would say that we are moving forward.” This bodes very well for the future of our universities’ football team, and it will be very interesting to watch how this season plays out.

So far, NGU has played three games. an away game against Tusculum University on August 30th, a home game against Lenoir-Rhyne University on September 8th, and another away game at Delta State University on September 22nd. NGU has won 2 of their games so far, setting their record at 2-1. It is clear to see that NGU is doing well in this new conference. NGU’s next game is a home game against the University of West Alabama on September 29th.
