School of Music Plays on through “The Bubble”
The Cline School of Music has added a plastic drape, also known as the bubble, in music professors’ offices to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during one-on-one music lessons.
The bubble is the newest part of North Greenville University’s COVID-19 protocol.
Music professor Seth Killen said, “We started looking into ways that we could continue to make music during the pandemic.”
The only way to continue teaching lessons unmasked and in person was through the bubble.
“I thought if we separated entirely, then everyone can be unmasked and we can carry on mostly normally,” said Killen.
Student and musician J.P. Waynick said the bubble took some time to get used to.
“It was really, really weird the first time we went into it. I guess we are trying to get used to it now,” said Waynick.
Even in his own space, Waynick said the experience is invaluable.
Whether wearing a mask in the classroom or unmasked in the bubble, the goal for the music department at North Greenville University is to continue face-to-face learning.
