TikTok is taking the world by storm

What’s the app that seems to have popped up out of nowhere? What do you keep seeing in all of your recent advertisements? What is shaping up to be one of the most controversial apps out there? It’s TikTok, or as we all once knew it, Musical.ly.
Chinese video platform TikTok has taken over Musical.ly, merging the two app powerhouses. In China, the app is known as Douyin and has over 300 million monthly active users.
While TikTok is based around users uploading short videos of themselves it doesn’t have the emphasis on music and songs like Musical.ly did.
If you were a big user of Musical.ly don’t worry, all your content still exists, it’s just on TikTok now.
Existing creators’ accounts, content and fan base have all moved automatically to the new TikTok app, with it taking on some of Musical.ly’s features too.
Within the app there’s a feed that highlights what’s happening in your community, as well as a separate “For You” feed which shows personalized video recommendations that are special to each person.
Other new features include a reaction feature that will allow you to react to your friends’ videos, new creative tools and virtual filters.
The app now has a digital wellbeing element, that will send an alert when users have been on TikTok for more than two hours.
Earlier this year, TikTok was one of the most downloaded apps around the world and with the Musical.ly acquisition, it looks like this is only the beginning.
