Crusaders charge into the post season

Crusaders charge into the post season

Evan Harper, Staff Writer

With North Greenville’s football season winding down, the focus will be on postseason play and winning the last game of the season. After losing to Valdosta State on Saturday 31-21, saying the crusaders faced adversity this season would be an understatement.

Valdosta is currently ranked number one in the conference and won a national championship in 2018. NGU holding them to a ten point loss is an impressive feat. Crusaders have had their ups and downs but are confident going into the postseason.

Although North Greenville does currently have a losing record of 4-6, football is still the highest competition in Division 2. North Greenville has been facing some intense opponents.

Teams like Valdosta State and University of West Florida can almost be considered Division 1 teams with the amount of talent they have on their rosters. North Greenville is having to face uphill battles size-wise every week. Other top schools have 10-15,000 kids at their school, while NGU has roughly 2,400 and still manage to compete.

Unfortunately, heart and passion can’t always override good football. With North Greenville’s record only being 4-6, the numbers and stats they put up were still impressive. Dre Williams, running back number 4, rushed for 700 yards and averaged almost 70 yards per game.

Quarterback Riley Kaelyn has thrown for 1,451 yards and has a quarterback ranking of 120.33. With the crusaders averaging 23 points per game, the post season looks a lot more realistic.

With one more game left against Shorter University, the crusaders need to do some soul searching to finish off the rest of the season and the postseason. They need to find that extra gear they have been missing this fall season.

They have players putting up good numbers and a great coaching staff, once they get everyone’s eyes on the same page, this will be a winning football team.
