Snow much to say: NGU student’s favorite moments from the Winter Olympics

On Feb 6, 2026, the Winter Olympics kicked off, and students are cheering them on. With events ranging from ice hockey to bobsled, North Greenville University students are having a blast rooting for their favorite sports.

Kate Phillips, a sophomore elementary education major, has been enjoying the ice-skating events and states, “I believe that Quad God deserved all his awards despite his big fall.”

Abby Trent, a senior youth ministry major, was impressed with the USA’s ice skating team. “It was so awesome when the U.S. Ice Skating Team won gold despite being so close to Japan.”

Daniel Tolbert, a freshman health science major, shared that his favorite moment from the Olympics so far was when the U.S. women’s hockey team won in overtime against Canada.

Jacob Strouse, a junior digital media major, said that he has been enjoying the bobsledding events. “I think that the bobsledding is super funny, and it’s entertaining to watch them speed along on the ice.”

Brayden Melton, a freshman business management major, also expressed pride in the U.S. women’s hockey team for beating Canada in overtime to win the gold medal.

Emma Earls, a freshman psychology major, has been following the snowboarder Ollie Martin, and is impressed by his ability to reach the top 12 in snowboarding despite his young age.

Nick Ross, a senior math major, said his favorite moment of the games so far was. “When the U.S. men’s hockey team took the gold medal in their game against Canada.”

Matt Lockhart, a junior business management major, is another hockey fan and has been enjoying the games. He said, “My favorite so far was the men’s hockey team beating Sweden in overtime.”
