Humans of NGU: Nathan Pasechnikov

David Monroe, Contributing Writer

Nathan Pasechnikov is a 23-year-old freshman. Despite starting school later than most, he isn’t discouraged in the slightest.

Before coming to NGU, Pasechnikov went to a technical school where he trained to do electrical work and planned to start a career. Despite all that, Pasechnikov felt he wasn’t where the God wanted him to be. Pasechnikov has always played music and wants to use his music to give thanks to the Lord and serve him, which is why he is now studying music performance at NGU.

The transition for Pasechnikov has been smooth, and he feels he is finally where God wants him. Pasechnikov enjoys learning from his cello professor as she not only helps him improve his skills, but also mentors him as a believer in Christ.

On top of his regular lessons Pasechnikov also practices his cello for a minimum of 13 hours a week. Pasechnikov believes his connection with God helps him practice as God gives him the boldness to play for his glory.

Pasechnikov said that it’s hard for him to play when he isn’t connected to God, so he makes time to reconnect with God throughout his day to day.

When Pasechnikov is practicing his cello, classical music is his favorite genre to play. Classical music is advanced and technical, making it ideal for honing Pasechnikov’s skills with his cello. Some of Pasechnikov’s favorite pieces of classical music are the suites by Bach. Pasechnikov enjoys Bach’s music because Bach was also a follower of Christ, and his music is melodious and well thought out.

Pasechnikov believes music and faith go together. The Bible asks for people to give thanks to the Lord. Serving God through music with worship is how Pasechnikov Likes to do that. Pasechnikov said he wants people to know Jesus is his savior and the only way to heaven. Pasechnikov hopes to graduate by 2028 and pursue a career as a music performer where he can use his music to serve the Lord.
