Junior elementary education major Merena Russeau shares that her favorite thanksgiving tradition is buying a pumpkin and enjoying a homemade pumpkin pie her sister makes with it. A second tradition she has is “watching the Lions lose, because we’re Lions fans and they’re a little rough…but this year they’re doing well so they might win this Thanksgiving.”

Senior worship studies major Josh Wood’s favorite Thanksgiving tradition is getting together with all his extended family and doing classic customs like breaking the turkey wishbone. “My dad reads the Emancipation Proclamation almost every time,” he adds.

Freshman theatre education major Samantha Patrick is a fan of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. She says her family keeps it playing in the kitchen for the girls to watch while football is on in the living room until they’re ready to eat. “We all come together in the dining room and say what we’re thankful for,” she says.

Sophomore interdisciplinary studies major Liam Riley says, “every Thanksgiving my aunt and uncle and grandparents come down from Georgia and come to our house, and we have a big ‘ole breakfast and watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade.” He also shares that they watch the classic Christmas movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” after the parade.

Freshman theatre education major Rebecca Panagiotacos’ favorite Thanksgiving tradition is “making all of our Thanksgiving pies the day before.”

Sophomore interdisciplinary studies major Jenna Hansard says she loves “waking up and watching the Broadway part before the parade with my family.” She also enjoys driving up to her grandparents’ house and eating a Thanksgiving feast with her entire family.

Freshman theatre major Anslee Johnson’s favorite Thanksgiving custom is when she and her cousins draw names out of a bowl to find out who will buy whose Christmas present. It’s a fun way for her family to kick off the Christmas season.
