Women’s volleyball is crushing it

The North Greenville University women’s volleyball team is making waves around campus. With a record of 19 wins and five losses, the team has had one of the best starts to a season in years.

According to the players along with the university’s coaching staff, this is an accomplishment that has been made collectively. Through hard work and above all, coexistence within the team. This last factor has been key for the player, senior Abigail Durham.

“The special thing about this year is the community, it’s like a family. We’ve become close, and there’s nothing wrong internally. It’s my fifth year and it’s my last season. I think that’s why it’s so special to me,” Durham said.

In the last two seasons, the team has made it to the championship but failed to win it. Both inside and out of the team, there is speculation that things could be different this year. Durham explains why this year is different.

“Our team has a lot of possibilities this year. I think family is a big part of it. And when you can connect well with each other, then it can make a difference. We have a lot of seniors and a lot of experience. We’re going to win it all this year,” said Durham.

The team’s success is due to the performance of the players on the court, where people like Durham make a difference. But this success is not only due to that but also to the work of coach Greg Mosely.

“We have experience. We have some depth with our seniors, who are juniors, and we’ve brought in a very large first-year student class who are tall. They’re not just here for volleyball. But they understand that volleyball is a big part of why they’re here. These kids get it in the classroom. They get it in behavior as well as in competition,” said Mosely.

Mosely’s philosophy has generated a great start to the season with a record of 19 wins and only five losses, which has students and staff members wondering how this is possible. Mosely is clear on why the success has started.

“This has been a progression. It’s been intentional and purposeful. It’s not something that just happened. The strength of our team this year is new. I think if we look at the success that volleyball has had, it’s because our student body and our faculty are fans of volleyball. When they see that we have success on the court, they get excited, so we have positive energy around our program.” said Mosely,

Mosely has certainly shown his appreciation for the fans. He also stresses the importance of the fans and their continued support to make that clear.

“Thank you to the staff members for their hard work teaching these young men and working around them. We have the best fan base at the conference. Thank you to our fans for being such volleyball fans, and then to say to them, stay with us through the ups and downs,” Mosely said.
