North Greenville University graduate, Grace Myers, was honored in Columbia on Wednesday, April 19. Myers was named the 2022 Public Relations Student of the Year by the South Carolina Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

Myers is the first North Greenville University student to be awarded the honor. Myers graduated NGU in December 2022.

According to SCPRSA, the award is a distinguished honor. It is presented to “an outstanding student who shows exceptional promise as a future PR practitioner.”

The Mercury Awards ceremony in Columbia was filled with public relations professionals at the time of the announcement. There were also professional development events held at the conference.

Myers was proud of her accomplishment. She thanked NGU’s professors for their guidance.

“I’m so grateful that the Lord has allowed me to find success in my passion. However, I can’t acknowledge this award without also acknowledging North Greenville’s School of Communication for its guidance during my college career. Every single one of my professors continuously poured into me and encouraged me to always aim higher in everything I set out to do,” Myers said.

Not only is Myers proud of herself, but her professors are proud of her as well.

“When I met Grace two and a half years ago on the first day of my Principles of Public Relations course, she impressed me with her quick understanding of the profession and her courageous drive to improve the world around her,” said Ansley Welchel.

Welchel is not the only one proud of Myers.

“Grace displayed excellence in the classroom and all professional endeavors during her years in our communication program – from student media to internships to student engagement and campus life,” said Randall King.

Myers is currently working in the public relations industry. She works full-time for Infinity Marketing in Greenville. Infinity said Myers has accomplished a lot since joining their team in February 2023.

“In her short time at Infinity, Grace has made an impact,” said Gina O’Donnell, social team manager. “Her hunger for knowledge paired with a determination to reach her goals has proven to make her an asset. We’re honored to have her on our team,” she said.

Myers plans to continue growing in the public relations industry. Her peers say they have no doubt she will succeed in whatever she decides to do.
