After some serious girl power on the field last season, get updated on the current season of women’s lacrosse.

The North Grenville University’s women’s lacrosse season has started up and people are pumped. With a very successful past season, they are expected to do even better this year.

Due to change in strategy and several new faces on the team, women’s lacrosse is projected to have a memorable year.

The differences between last season and this coming season are big reasons to believe the turnout will be drastically better. Sydney Taylor, NGU women’s lacrosse coach has said that she has changed her strategy of the game as part of her plan for the team to have a better performance.

Taylor said, “My goal with the team is just to improve every year, I always say to the girls that their biggest competitor is the athlete they were last season. I’ve even changed up how I do the practices.”

To elaborate, “I’ve started doing a pyramid style ranking of the girl’s positions (pyramid like the show Dance Moms used) in efforts to make girls play harder. Plus, I have also changed some of their positions which has been interesting. I have a feeling this year will be a totally different ball game than last season” Taylor said.

More contributing differences from last year, are new faces. The team didn’t lose many seniors, but they did gain six new freshmen. In doing this, the team isn’t losing much in comparison to the assets the team is gaining. This change in dynamic of the team will only make the team improve.

As mentioned, along with the difference in players, comes the difference in positions. Kayla Harris, sophomore lacrosse player at NGU has been moved from defense to offense this year and she explains how the politics of the sport work.

“Having my position changed has certainly caused me to do some adjusting to how I play, but I trust it. I’ll play whatever position my team needs me to play; what works best for the team, I’ll do it, and I know that’s the mindset all the other girls have too”, Harris said.

This season for the women’s team has not started how they expected. They have lost their first two games so far, but Harris said that these losses will only add more fuel behind the player’s performance.

“I think we got comfortable because we had a good season last year. Losing is a very humbling experience honestly, so I think in a way, we needed it and could use it as motivation for the rest of the season.” Harris said.
