COVID-19 vaccine drive-thru
Prisma Health is offering a drive-thru Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine event on September 29 in the parking lot behind the library. Appointments are required and hour slots are available between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.
‘Devious licks’ TikTok challenge
Students at Dawkins Middle School in Moore, SC are facing disciplinary action after damaging bathroom utilities. The students were participating in a TikTok challenge to vandalize soap dispensers and bark like dogs. Similar incidents in schools have been reported nationwide.
Chic-fil-A plus
A Chic-fil-A restaurant in Columbia, SC will be demolished and rebuilt on the same site at 294 Harbison Blvd. The restaurant will contain new landscaping, a multi-lane drive-thru and a larger building.
Vaccine mandates
A landlord in Florida is requiring tenants and company workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or face eviction. Santiago A. Alvarez, 80, began requiring vaccines Aug. 15 and faces a possible $5,000 fine in violation of the governor’s executive order banning vaccine mandates.
No boosters
A Food and Drug Administration panel has voted against giving COVID-19 booster shots to the general population. In contrast with the Biden administration, the FDA panel will recommend booster shots only to individuals at high risk and those 65 and older. The panel said there is not enough data to support recommending third shots for younger people.
