The Brady Bunch: Teams that could land the GOAT this offseason
Trey Stewart, Sports Editor
Tom Brady has consistently hurdled every problem that has come his way throughout a career full of unprecedented success.
Popular pundits of the football world did not believe he was in proper football shape when drafted in 2001, causing him to fall all the way to the sixth round of the draft, where he was finally scooped up by Bill Belichick and the rising New England Patriots.
Season after season, touchdown after touchdown, and inevitably, championship after championship (much to the rest of the NFL’s dismay), Brady proved time and time again that he would be a consistent force to be reckoned with throughout the league.
Now, at age 42, Tom Brady faces perhaps the most challenging decision that has been thrown his way throughout his 20-year NFL career.
He is, at last, an unrestricted free agent.
What does this mean? It means that perhaps the other 31 NFL teams can breathe and rejoice. The Brady-Belichick dynamic duo in New England may finally be coming to an end.
Many teams have expressed interest in signing Brady for what will likely be the remainder of his career, however, some frontrunners have emerged as obvious potential suitors for the undisputed greatest quarterback of all-time.
Among these teams: The San Francisco 49ers, last year’s Super Bowl runners-up.
“I think it would be a great fit for him,” Klay Jacks says of the possible move. “They have a lot of talent out there. Plenty of young and talented receivers to compliment the stellar running back core. I think TB12 would do amazing in the Bay Area.”
The state of California seems like a popular destination to speculate a move for Brady, as perhaps the leading candidate for his signing is just a few hundred miles south, down in the heart of Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Chargers are in dire need of a quarterback to fill the gaping hole they currently have in the position. Longtime Charger and San Diego/Los Angeles legend Philip Rivers made public the decision to part ways with the team months ago, leaving the team desperately needing a quarterback in the offseason. With Austin Ekeler, the stellar pass-catching running back for the Chargers, receiving an extension this past week, Chargers fans remain excited at the opportunity to possibly sign Brady with a chance rejuvenate the Chargers offense in a competitive AFC West.
However the rest of the offseason unfolds, the league could look a lot different next year. Whether Tom Brady ends up balling out in the California with the 49ers, rocking in Nashville with the Tennessee Titans, or returning home to the confines of Gillette Stadium in Foxborough to finish his career with the Patriots, it will make for quite the storyline before the 2020 season begins.
But one thing remains certain: no matter where Brady decides to take his talents this offseason, and no matter how he finishes his storied career, he will undoubtedly go down as the best to ever toss around the pigskin.
