Public figures running in 2020

There’s still over a year until the next presidential election in the United States when Twitter battles and telecast debates will flood the public eye, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t the topic of discussion even now.
On the day of his inauguration, Donald Trump applied for re-election. However, there is a large number of candidates proposing their interest in running, many of which are Democratic. This is in part due to the distinguished differences between the Democrat party and President Trump during his term.
The 2020 election has been said to be the year where many public figures will possibly try their luck of taking the seat in the Oval Office.
Kanye West started the trend when he announced in his acceptance speech at the 2015 Video Music Awards that he has decided to run for president in 2020. Many sources reached out to West at the time to find out if this was a joke and when asked by Vanity Fair if he was still considering running in the election, he told them, “Oh, definitely.”
According to TIME magazine, “Since 2016, celebrities such as Kanye West, Alec Baldwin, and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson have hinted they might be interested in running for president, as have business moguls Mark Cuban and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.” The key word here is “hinted.” Many public figures have alluded to the fact that they would run, but this doesn’t appear to be a large possibility when the actual election process commences next year.
These public figures that Americans know and love are admitting that they offer little political knowledge, but do however possess intelligence in people and humanity. However, much to the public’s dismay, that doesn’t equate to being accurately qualified for the job.
In a Rolling Stone interview Johnson explained the practicality of it all, “I mean, look,” says Johnson, “people are very excited, and it’s so flattering that they’re excited. I think it’s also a function of being very unsatisfied with our current president. But this is a skill set that requires years and years of experience. On a local level, on a state level and then on a national level. I have the utmost respect for our country and that position, and I’m not delusioned in any way to think, ‘Oh, absolutely, if Trump can do it, I can do it, and I’ll see you in 20-whatever, get ready.’ Not at all.”
Here’s who is actually committed to running in the 2020 election: Cory Booker, Pete Buttigieg, Julian Castro, and John Delaney to name a few.
The contenders in the Democratic Party for 2020 are the most diverse it has ever been in the United States. Republican representatives considering running in the election include many names the American people have already heard of such as Mike Pence, Ted Cruz, Mitt Romney, and our very own former governor, Nikki Haley.
It seems that although Americans are willing and even excited to put some of their favorite celebrities in office, their names will unlikely appear on the ballot. However, don’t let that discourage you from ensuring you are registered and able to vote when the time comes.
