Over the weekend, students at North Greenville University can go check out some entertainment at the Camelot Cinemas in Greenville. Though a smaller theater, it does not take away the excitement from some of the newest movies released, and at the student pricing of only $9; it is a great way to spend a Saturday night.

Recently the movie Crazy Rich Asians came out and it hit theaters with a bang. While many may not know, the movie is based on a book and a few details were changed around. It is also the first movie in over 20 years, since The Joy Luck Club, to have a solely Asian cast.

Even though a few scenes were added or taken out, it is all about making the movie flow so it is more enjoyable for the viewers and can help make more sense of what is going on.

The movie is about a young couple, Rachel Chu and Nick Young. Nick is planning on bringing Rachel to meet his family in Singapore. Not realizing her luck, her life is about to change as she finds out that Nick’s family are multi-billionaires. The young couple faces a lot of criticism and Nicks mother’s disapproval is extremely apparent but the twists and turns in the film keep the audience on their toes as they watch the plot progress.

According to rottentomatoes.com, Crazy Rich Asians got an audience score of 86 percent and made a gross $26 million in the first weekend.

While getting to go see the movie is great, it is also fun to hear about other people’s opinions. A few students were able to go see it opening weekend and Vision Media was able to catch up with one to see what they thought about the movie.

My favorite part of the movie was the end of the movie when Rachel played Mahjong with Nicks mother and basically showed her up. Its a good movie and I would go watch it again, said Katelyn Benfield, NGU sophomore.

The majority of North Greenville students and staff can agree that theyre not billionaires, but the movie has relatable factors in store that many can relate to. The heart-tugging story shows that even if a parent may not fully approve of your significant other in the beginning, there is always room for a change of heart.

Something that is also unique about the storyline is that it shows multiple peoples lives and how they can be different. Besides just focusing on Rachel and Nick, a few other families are introduced and it shows howpeople handle money differently even if they all belong to the same family.

This is not your average rom-com movie. It has hilarious punch lines and exciting scenes. You also get to travel to Singapore all in one night. Crazy Rich Asians is a movie that should not be missed. The movie came out on Aug. 15 so you still have time before it gets put on Demand, so until then grab a student price ticket and check it out.
