It has been over two years since Owl City has released a full-length album. He has released a few singles since then including “Humbug,” “Not All Heroes Wear Capes,” and “Waving Through a Window (From Dear Evan Hansen).”
His new album Cinematic, is going to tell us the story behind the man who started Owl City, Adam Young. It is being released through 3 EPs called Reel 1, Reel 2, and Reel 3. The first song released from the album is “All My Friends.” The full album will be released on June 1, 2018. It is currently available for preorder on iTunes and Amazon. When you preorder Cinematic, you automatically get “All My Friends,” and you receive each Reel when it is released.
Adam Young started Owl City ten years ago in his parents’ basement as a means of dealing with his insomnia. His first EP was Of June, released in 2007. His first full length album was Maybe I’m Dreaming, released in 2008. They both did really well on the Billboard Charts.
Owl City’s first hit song was “Fireflies,” which went platinum in April 2010. “Fireflies” recently went back up on the charts, where it reached #8 on the Billboard chart. It all started because of a tweet a fan sent. He wanted to know if each firefly hugged him 10,000 times, or if 1/10 of the fireflies hugged him. Young responded with a two-paragraph explanation and a little humor. (Young is known for his Twitter humor.)
