French presidential election heading to runoff

The presidential race in France is heading to a runoff between two very different politicians. BBC World News has reported that Marine Le Pen, president of the National Front, and Emmanuel Macron, a member of the En Marche! party, are projected to face-off in the runoff on May 7. After President Francois Hollande chose not to seek re-election, many candidates saw an opportunity to seek the presidency. Le Pen is known as a right-wing nationalist candidate, while Macron is a centrist and a social liberal.

 

Israel holds ceremony to remember the Holocaust

In a somber ceremony beginning on Sunday evening, Apr. 23, and ending on the evening of Apr. 24, Israel celebrated its annual Remembrance Day to remember the horror of the Holocaust. According to Fox News, “Cafes and other places of entertainment shut down while TV and radio stations broadcast documentaries about the Holocaust from Sunday evening until commemorations end at sundown the next day.” Six million Jews were slaughtered during the second World War, and the Jews never want to forget those tragic events.

President Trump to Hold Rally in Pennsylvania

In celebration of his 100th day in office, President Donald Trump will hold a rally in the state of Pennsylvania. On Saturday, April 22, 2017, Trump tweeted, “Next Saturday night I will be holding a BIG rally in Pennsylvania. Look forward to it!” The day before the rally is the deadline for Congress to pass a new budget plan. If it doesn’t, then it will force a temporary shutdown. Headlines will be interesting to read as the rally approaches.

 

Bill O’Reilly to return with new podcast

Only six days after being fired from Fox News, Bill O’Reilly is returning to the media’s spotlight. On April 24, O’Reilly debuts his new podcast, “No Spin News.” To listen to his new podcast, people must subscribe to a premium subscription on his website. According to Breitbart, costs of the subscription are $49.94 for a year, and $4.95 for a month.

March for Science rally held in Greenville

On Saturday, April 22, 2017, hundreds of local civilians took to the streets of downtown Greenville, S.C., to promote the subject of science on Earth Day. According to WYFF, “The rally in Greenville was one of hundreds around the United Sates and the world Saturday which is also Earth Day.” WYFF also reported that “The events are designed to promote the understanding of science and defend it from various attacks.”

Miracle Hill holds fundraiser for NGU student

The Miracle Hill in Travelers Rest, S.C. held a bake sale this past Saturday to raise money for Joey Hyatt, the North Greenville University student who was badly injured in a fire accident in April. According to WSPA.com, the event was from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and they sold hamburgers and hotdogs to help raise the money.
