NGU senior broadcast major, Gabriellle Fanelli, wants to kick cancer goodbye by raising money and awareness through her “Kickin’ Cancer Goodbye” event on Oct. 22 at NGU’s Younts Stadium.

The event will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., admission is free and everyone who attends will receive a Bojangles gift card with each card containing a balance of $1 to $100.

“Kickin’ Cancer Goodbye” will incorporate food vendors, including The Calabash Wagon and Nate’s Pizza.  There will be many exciting events for the whole family to enjoy, such as pony rides, talent shows, live entertainment, including Clemson University’s Tigeroar, and approximately 15-20 local shops and boutique vendors.  And there will also be an art auction from North Greenville majors.

Flag football teams will be playing at the beginning of the event starting at 10 a.m.  The winners of the flag football tournament and talent show will be announced at 4:30 p.m.

Local cancer survivors will be honored at 4 p.m. and a balloon release will close the event at 5 p.m.

Through this event, not only is Fanelli raising cancer awareness, but she is also donating all the proceeds to the Greenville Cancer Society.

Fanelli’s grandparents were her inspiration for creating this event.  Her grandpa “Papa” and grandma “Mema” were both diagnosed with cancer the summer before Fanelli began her freshman year at NGU.

During Fanelli’s spring break of freshman year, her grandmother passed away and six months later, her grandfather passed as well.

“My heart behind planning this event is losing my Mema and Papa to cancer while at NGU. They were diagnosed with the same cancer, in the same stage, on the same day, the summer before I began college,” explained Fanelli.

Fanelli realized just how short life really is and wants to make a difference in the lives of others through this event.  She also encourages her fellow schoolmates to do the same.

“We have one life to leave our mark on this world. This is an awesome opportunity for students at North Greenville to do just that,” added Fanelli.
