NGU Financial Aid announces new summer scholarships

Brendon Dail, Staff Writer

Mike Jordan, director of Financial Aid at NGU, said there is a possibility that the department will be able to allow students to use their Life and/or Palmetto Fellows scholarships for the summer semester if they choose to do so.

This is a major opportunity that the department has given to the student body to help them pay for expensive summer courses. The school administration is currently working this decision out.

The Life scholarship is a $5,000 per year grant to students who are South Carolina residents and maintain average grades. The Palmetto Fellows scholarship is a $10,000 per year grant to students who are South Carolina residents and maintain above average grades.

The Life and Palmetto Fellows scholarships are eight semester-long scholarships. This means that one summer semester is equivalent to one regular year semester. If a student with seven semesters on his Life scholarship uses it on the summer semester, then he will not be able to use it on the fall semester.

It is very important that students who qualify for either of these tuition grants have their FAFSA in by June 30.

Jordan says there will probably be fewer work-study opportunities for next school year because many students have already filled the positions. The 60-hour semester salary is also subject to change. The administration is also currently discussing this.
