U.S. House rep visits NGU
On Monday, Spartanburg native and U.S. House Representive Trey Gowdy visited the NGU campus. Gowdy is heading up the investigation in the Benghazi hearings, which is sure to be one of the top news events of the decade.

This weekend is Family Weekend at North Greenville University. NGU is welcoming your family to the campus this fall and this is the perfect opportunity for your family to come and experience the community that students experience on a daily basis.

White House intruders
There was excitement and embarrassment at the White House last weekend, with two separate breaches of security involving individuals trespassing on the White House grounds. One actually gained entry to a residential area. The first family was not home at the time.
Pistol-packing pastor
A pistol-packing pastor helped catch a grandmother last week who had been stealing packages from the front porches of homes in Baytown, Texas. Pastor Benny Holmes was, “at his wits end” after packages delivered to his home kept disappearing. He was determined that he would wait, however long it took, until his plan paid off and he sprang into action. When police arrived at the scene, Holmes was holding Laurie Ferguson, 52, at gunpoint
L.A. earthquakes increasing
The last five months in Los Angeles have been marked by five earthquakes larger than 4.0. For two decades there were some years that passed without a single quake of 4.0 or greater. Earthquake experts said 2014 is clearly a year of increased seismic activity, but it’s hard to know whether the recent string of quakes suggests that a larger one is on the way.

Putin Challenges Obama
Six Russian military airplanes, two IL-78 refueling tankers, two Mig-31 fighter jets and two Bear long-range bombers were intercepted by two U.S. F-22 fighter jets 55 miles off the Alaska coast this week. Tensions are high between the United States and Russia as the two countries are increasingly at odds over the Ukraine conflict.
Weak coalition against ISIS
The results thus far of the Obama administration’s efforts to form an alliance to fight ISIS look meager. Last week two-dozen governments pledged to help fight the extremists “by any means necessary.” But only a handful have so far agreed to participate in air combat missions and none has signed on to support prospective U.S. air strikes in Iraq or Syria.
Scotland stays in
With the results in from all 32 council areas, the “STAY” side won with 2,001,926 votes over 1,617,989 for “LEAVING” the umbrella of the United Kingdom. Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond called for unity. England’s Prime Minister David Cameron said he was delighted the UK would remain together. Rumors abound that Scotland somehow remains restless, a prolonged future is yet unknown.
