Comedy in the classroom: Real stories from NGU

A university is a place of knowledge, teaching and preparation for college students every single day.
However, just because the classroom is a learning environment does not mean that students and professors alike can’t have a good time.
Senior music education major Jarred Miller tells his funniest story from inside the classroom.
Miller said, “One time, I was in my math class and the professor said that he curved all of our quizzes by ten points. I was so excited because I had really struggled with that quiz and I needed the extra points. When he handed my quiz back my face dropped. I had gotten a 12 on the quiz … with the curve.”
As he told the story, Miller was laughing until his face turned red. He continued with,
“I don’t know why it’s so funny. It’s actually really depressing.”
Sophomore health science major Ty Johnson had a hard time recollecting his funniest in-class story. After a few moments, he smirked.
“Probably when a dude in my class cried mid-test and then handed the professor a drop slip on his way out the door,” Johnson said. “It wasn’t even that hard of a test. I think he was just having a hard day. Pretty funny though.”
Students aren’t the only ones who make the entire class laugh. Professors have their fair share of embarrassing moments in the classroom as well.
Senior broadcast media major Kelsea Hicks recalls one of her favorite moments from her senior year.
“I had a new professor on his first day at NGU. When he was introducing himself to the class, he went to sit down and completely missed the chair. He hit the ground pretty hard, and we were all laughing. He was a good sport about it and laughed it off,” Hicks said.
“What is even funnier is I had him again later that day, and he fell again. Same way and everything.”
Hicks was crying with laughter as she finished her story which shows the pure joy that these in-class moments bring to students every single day.
Having funny or embarrassing moments create a healthy environment for students and professors to laugh with each other instead of at each other.
Tigerville is filled with smiling faces and laughter everywhere you look. They say that laughter is the best medicine, and North Greenville University has taken a double dose.
