Fun times in the fall time
Ariona Imel, Staff Writer
Come fall, the weather cools down and the leaves on the trees begin to change. With the cooler weather, there is still time to be outside before winter comes. Fall brings pumpkins, Halloween, harvest market, bonfires and so much more. Greenville and the upstate have no shortage of fun fall activities for all ages.
Grace Pumpkin Patch
Pumpkin patches are something everybody loves. No matter the age, there is nothing like picking out pumpkins from the dozens in a patch. Grace Pumpkin Patch is the perfect place to go when looking for fun. For every pumpkin purchased there, they give a percentage to children’s homes and youth groups. Grace Pumpkin Patch is following the CDC guidelines to keep their visitors safe, so make sure to grab a mask before heading over there.
Shelby Corn Maze
Another fun activity you can do is go to a corn maze. Head on over to Shelby Corn Maze, they have an 8-acre maze and also hold a haunted maze after dark in October. They have over 40 activities to keep visitors busy during their visit. They offer hayrides, a petting zoo, photo props, a tube slide and a giant jumping pillow. This place is perfect for a day visit to the corn maze, or if one is brave enough to do the haunted maze in the dark.
Grandad’s Apples
Grandad’s Apples, located over in Hendersonville, offers a great apple orchard with over 30 different kinds of apples. You can go out and hand pick apples that you want, or you can get an assorted bin over at the store. Not only do they have apples, but they also have a bakery, where they sell homemade goodies. They make apple cider slushies, apple turnovers, apple cider donuts and much more. Grandad’s Apples also features a corn maze, farm animals, a pumpkin patch and canned goods.
Carl Sandburg Home
For those looking to pet some farm animals, specifically goats, take a visit to the Carl Sandburg home. They have many goats to visit in the fall, and those who visit in the spring can see the new baby goat. For those visiting, they have several hiking trails and tours of their home; make sure to check times online. Sometimes if the goats are nice enough, they will let visitors pet them or give them a good back scratch.
Halloween Thrillers
Halloween is the signature holiday of the fall and what is more fitting than a scary movie? Fall is the perfect setting to watch a scary movie. Now to decide whether to watch a classic scary movie or a newer one. “Psycho” is a classic for horror fans. For the faint of heart, “Hocus Pocus” and “Halloweentown” offer festive fun without the fright.
