North Greenville University football kicked off their season on August 30th and has a challenging but exciting season ahead. This is their first season being apart of the Gulf South Conference so the NGU football team is ready to make their mark in the upcoming games. Being a part of the new conference means playing new teams and having new opportunities. The Gulf South Conference has a joint arrangement with ESPN 3 that allows the teams in the conference to have two of their games be broadcast on the channel. There will be one home game and one away game for each team in the conference to have broadcast. If our team advances to playoffs then those games will also be broadcast. The dates for the North Greenville games include the home game on September 29th and the away game at West Georgia on October 6th.

Joining the new conference as well as having the opportunity to be broadcast on ESPN 3 marks important milestones for NGU football. Director of creative media and head of football communications, Robert Gawrys is excited about the impact that these broadcasted games will have on North Greenville. He states, “It means a lot because anytime you put those letters ESPN on something it’s a big deal.” The media team and athletics department put out an article that was able to get a lot of attention and interest from individuals that are excited for the opportunity to see North Greenville football on ESPN 3. For people who have never heard of North Greenville University, it’s a positive way to get the University’s name out to the public.

As director of creative media, Robert Gawrys pushes social media and other forms of communication in order to inform the public about NGU and the athletics. Gawrys says, “We do what we can on social media, but we’re going to start pushing out game day stuff. Social media is now where marketing is heading.” Social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram is where media is heading and where the focus is as far as informing the public about events and activities at North Greenville. Publicizing and properly using media for the benefit of NGU would aid in athletic recruitment, attendance numbers at games as well as general interest in the program.

North Greenville is excited about the opportunity to play in the Gulf South Conference and looks forward to the milestone of having a game broadcast on ESPN 3. Keep a lookout for more information from NGU football’s social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The first home football game to be broadcast at North Greenville will take place on Saturday, September 29th, so come out and support the NGU football team as they embark on this amazing opportunity.
