Who is “El Chapo”?

The trial of Joaqun Guzmn will take place in the month of September, 2018. “El Chapo” is a Mexican drug lord who gained his nickname, which means “shorty” due to his 5 ft 6 in height.
He was considered the most powerful drug trafficker in the world by the United States Department of the Treasury. In January 2017, Guzman was extradited to the U.S. to face charges related to running the Sinaloa cartel. Guzman pled not guilty to a 17-count indictment in the United States District Court in New York. Guzman was charged with money laundering, drug trafficking, kidnapping and murder in Chicago, Miami, New York and other cities.
