The best April Fool’s Day pranks of 2018

Taylor Deaton, Staff Writer

Every year when April 1 rolls around, we brace ourselves for the worst. This is the one day of the year where it is socially acceptable to be completely paranoid of everyone. 2018 was no exception, which was shown by corporations and some of our favorite celebrities in these funny April Fool’s Day jokes.

Stephen King

Stephen King announced that he was in consideration for running for Governor of Maine on the website king4maine2018.com. On the website, King shared a campaign video, but upon clicking the video, Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” began playing and King ended his April Fool’s prank by rick-rolling his fans.

Elon Musk

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, took to twitter this past Sunday to announce that Tesla was declaring bankruptcy in a series of tweets, keeping a very serious tone until posting the following picture with the caption, “Happy New Month!”

The next day, however, Musk’s joke backfired majorly when Tesla’s stock dropped 7 percent. It seems like many investors did not find the joke very funny.

Burger King

On March 30, Burger King announced a “chocolate Whopper” on Twitter, claiming the burger was “coming soon to your local Burger King.” On April 1, Burger King followed up with a separate tweet, with the caption of the video reading, “jk lol.”

LEGO

LEGO shared this picture via Twitter, announcing the “VacuSort” as a new product. Many quickly became on board with the product, tweeting for LEGO to put the false product into production.

T-Mobile

The phone company introduced Sidekicks as their April Fool’s Day prank, a high-top shoe that doubled as a phone for your foot. The company created a video to sell the idea that these shoes were actually happening.

Even large companies and celebrities can come down from their pedestals on April Fool’s Day to share a few laughs with their followers.
