Humans of NGU: Levi Morales

His typical day begins at 4:30 a.m. when he gets up to go to Furman for 5:30 training. The training is finished by 7 when he leaves to attend classes here at NGU. He remains in class until 12 p.m. before heading back to Furman for afternoon leadership classes. After that he is finally able to return home to finish school work and see his family, that is if he is not working that night.
This is the typical day for Levi Morales, a member of ROTC. Morales, however, did not start his career in ROTC. He joined the military reserves at the age of 17, spending the summer between his junior and senior year of high school completing his basic training. He then returned to graduate high school before completing his advanced individual training (AIT).
So how did Morales know he wanted to put this time and effort into the military? It all started with his father who fought in the civil war in El Salvador before coming to American to train with the Rangers. Morales states that his father told him he should not enlist and Morales listened, that is until his older brother enlisted. Morales followed in both his father’s and brother’s footsteps by enlisting soon after.
Morales has since put what seems to be every waking moments into training, from 12 mile runs to field exercise training and has loved every minute of it.
