On March 31, the I-85 bridge leading into Atlanta collapsed after a fire formed under the bridge.
The fire started around 6:30 p.m. and continued until after 8 p.m.. The city has been storing high-density plastic used for cabling and fiber optics under the bridge. According to USA Today that material wasn’t combustible. Luckily this traffic disaster did not result in bodily harm to anyone.
There are about 250,000 civilians that travel over that bridge each day. Meaghan Stewart, NGU freshman, traveled to Atlanta recently for a day trip in the city.
Stewart stated, “The traffic was really bad but it flowed better than I thought it would.”
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Atlanta expected traffic to increase 20 percent as people returned to school and work.
“It was bumper-to-bumper for what seemed like forever before traffic picked back up” stated Stewart.
Stewart also stated, “ I do not plan to visit Atlanta again until the bridge is repaired so that I do not have to deal with traffic like that again”.
The bridge is expected to take up to six months to repair, so if anyone is planning on traveling through Atlanta: prepare for congested traffic.
