For people who believe that voting for your county or state representative is a long and tedious process, this new Facebook Town Hall tool is going to leave you breathless. Many believe it is our duty as Americans to educate ourselves politically and Facebook is just making it less of a hassle for us.
Talking with your state legislature and political officials in your area is becoming easier and easier as social media is absolutely skyrocketing with popularity. It is easy and free for desktop and mobile users in the U.S to discover elected officials and how to keep in contact with them as well.
People can message representatives, follow their Facebook pages, receive status updates and news from representatives and even call their representatives.
The Facebook Town Hall tool reminds users to vote in county and state elections, while informing users how to become connected with electoral campaigns.
Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder of the popular website Facebook, explains just how important it is to have this new Town Hall tool on Facebook by saying, “Beyond voting, the greatest opportunity is helping people stay engaged with the issues that matter to them every day, not just every few years at the ballot box. We can help establish direct dialogue and accountability between people and our elected leaders. This creates an opportunity for us to connect with our representatives at all levels.”
The Town Hall tool can be accessed via your settings on the Facebook app or at click here. Once you enter your home address, which will not be shared with others, you’ll be able to see a list of local and state representatives in the area closest to your address. Yes, it’s that easy!
