Senior Line backer Sam Houston puts the finishing touches to an already stellar career at North Greenville University. The Easley, S.C. native leading in tackles was named team Defensive Player of the Year to end his career as a crusader. Coming to North Greenville in 2013 as a true freshman, Houston would go on to become a four-year starter for the Crusaders’ football program.

Houston’s play making abilities and solid play at the middle linebacker position would soon become an asset to the crusaders.” My first year coming in I didn’t expect to see much time on the field, but some guys went down and it was my turn to step up” says Houston.

Houston adds that he’s always been very aware of whats going on the field, giving him the ability to play fast and get where he needs to be; some would say he has very high “Football IQ”.During the course of his four-year-career Houston was able to rack up a stellar 359 tackles, setting a new program best.

This past season Houston was able to stack up an impressive 124 total tackles making him second in school history for most tackles in a single season; 13 of those tackles being for a loss. Houston may have played his last down as a North Greenville Crusader, but his name will forever be written in history.

Houston on earning Definsive MVP, said, ” My time being a part of this program is something that I will never forget. Its been some the best times of my life. Everything I have accomplished I owe to my fellow teammates and coaches; non of this was down alone.”
