SCDPS begins enforcement campaign to “stop aggressive driving”

On January 31, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety began an effort to lower the amount of deadly collisions due to aggressive driving.
The SCDPS began the effort in the Upstate area with a three-day period of heavy enforcement against aggressive behaviors, starting on January 31 and ending on February 2.
The Highway Patrol Target Zero Team, whose focus to reduce fatalities will team up with local law enforcement to better enforce aggressive driving laws. This will occur in different areas around the state. It began in the upstate in January, and will continue throughout the year in different areas.
In 2016, the leading causes of fatal collisions were speed, driving while intoxicated and failure to yield right of way. These are some of the behaviors that the effort will target.
These enforcement periods are a part of the SCDPS’s Target Zero campaign. The purpose of the campaign is to reduce collisions and fatalities in South Carolina. This is in response to public concerns about aggressive driving.
The enforcement periods are going to coupled with a heavy enfaces on aggressive driving education.
Local roads such as U.S 275, U.S. 25 and I-385 have high numbers of fatalities and other accidents and have been chosen specifically for this enforcement campaign.
