North Greenville University junior and defensive player for the women’s lacrosse team, Candace Petit, is a graduate of Rosman High School where she played basketball and volleyball along with other extracurricular activities. An opportunity was put in front of Petit to play lacrosse and she jumped on board with the idea of playing a sport she knew nothing thing about.

Petit said, “Looking back on it now, I’m not sure why I even decided to play a sport that I had never even heard of. My philosophy was ‘why not’ and I was ready to try something new. This offer was a great way for me to start fresh on my athletic career.”

Since Petit has been a part of the program from the beginning, she has seen it build from the ground up. She had nothing but positive feedback for this upcoming season.

“I have very high expectations for this year’s team. We are no longer a brand new program and we have experienced some of the best teams in the region. We’ve worked really hard in the off season and I’m expecting it to pay of this season,” Petit said.

The women’s lacrosse team has managed to work its way into the number five spot in the ranking scale for this upcoming season. Petit said, “I’m looking forward to all of the games, but Pfeiffer most of all. We lost to them in the first round last year and played extremely close with them during season. I’m hoping for a win in 2017 that will put us at a higher ranked position in the conference.”

In Petit’s two years of playing for the Crusaders, she has been able to earn herself some notable accomplishments. She was awarded team’s “Best Defensive Player” freshman year and made her way to second Team All-Conference her sophomore year. She has been placed on the conference “players to watch” list, along with two of her teammates, for this upcoming season.

Petit plans to continue pursuing lacrosse while juggling the requirements of the early education and student teaching programs here at NGU.
