Every year has its own trends that come and go. These can range from a new music craze, to internet memes and especially fashion rages. These trends often have life spans of a few days while others can last for months, but nowadays, many trends have come forward that once lived their prime in an era outside of the current generation.  This year, many trends are coming back onto the scene, especially with fashion.

Fashion is an ever-changing movement that switches from style to style, eventually coming full circle. A must-have fashion staple that holds a timeless vibe are sunglasses.  NGU freshman Leah Taylor embraced the vintage trend of some signature shades.

Living close to Atlanta, Ga has given Leah experience in the area of fashion as well as photography. She strives to make a statement with her sense of fashion. “I really like round glasses because it’s just enough of that vintage vibe,” Taylor said.   The revival of vintage sunglasses has made way for brand names such as Oakley’s and Ray-Bans to design their own lenses to reflect the comeback style.  “Even outside of big brand names, retailers that make glasses often keep that vintage vibe present,” Taylor said.

Other fashion forward trends that have made themselves known is the use of the same fabric on fabric, such as denim.  Wearing layers of denim that are of a different shade further reflect a style that was highlighted in the 1970’s.

“Denim on denim seems to be coming back too.  I like wearing it with a white shirt,” Taylor said.  Jeans cuffed around the ankle used to make the wearer appear poor, but now it has become the general style. “I see a lot of people wearing jeans and cuff them up so that it exposes their stylish socks,” Taylor said.  “This used to indicate that you were poor, but now it’s just another way of expressing yourself.”

The distinctive fashion trends that constituted uniqueness back in the 70’s has become a present day street style.  From high waist jeans to patches on leather jackets, what used to be considered a style from the past is now a must-have of today.  “High waist jeans are back and are here to stay especially if they are paired with a crop top,” Taylor said.  “Even sweatshirts and leather jackets have been reunited with their signature sewed on patches.”

The timeless fashion of this generation has Taylor looking like she walked straight out of Woodstock in the 60’s and on to the trends of 2017, holding on to the style that signifies her as an individual.  “Uniqueness is being fought for,” Taylor said.  “People are desperate to be different in the midst of everyone looking the same.  I want my style to reflect that.”
