Grant Moses- Staff Writer
North Greenville University welcomes the first rugby club to campus. Rugby is a type of football that originated in Rugby, Warwickshire. It is one of many sports played in the 19th century and is now becoming a new sport on campus.
Logan Shipman has taken on the responsibility as coach for the team. Shipman states, “I look forward to being able to share my wisdom and being able to play and coach this great sport that I personally cannot get enough of.”
Shipman went on to say that he wants to give everyone a chance to play a sport. Rugby is a very fun and intense sport. It is also super fun to learn.
When Shipman was asked what his plans are as a leader in the new club, his response was “To develop friendships of the player and establish a solid rugby club for the university. I love this sport more than anything. It is the best sport I have ever played and I want others to experience that.”
Shipman also makes known that the team is currently looking for seven tournaments to enter the team into. He added “This will give us the publicity I feel that we need to attract more people to the club.”
Coach Shipman encourages people who are interested to come out to their practices every Monday and Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. on the field beside the stud.
The coach was asked where he hopes to see the club this time next year. His response was, “I would love to see us playing 15s in a regular season and not being limited to playing in 7s tournaments.”
