With the fall intramural season coming to an end at North Greenville University, ultimate frisbee and sand volleyball teams are preparing for their final games while competing for wins and top spots in the standings.

Each sport has given students a chance to compete with friends, build teamwork and stay involved on campus. As the season winds down, teams are trying to finish strong while enjoying their last opportunities to play this fall.

Ultimate frisbee has been a competitive and enjoyable experience for students this semester. Alex Epstein, player, said his team has a 2-1 record with two games remaining.

“We have two guys on our team that legit play Ultimate Frisbee for an actual league,” Epstein explained.

That experience gives the group players who understand the sport and can find ways to help their teammates as they work toward finishing out strong.

After the team lost their first game, they realized they needed to improve their defensive discipline and make smarter decisions with the frisbee on offense. Those adjustments have helped the players focus on improving the way they play as they come to the final games.

With two games left, the team has an chance to work on its winning record and close the season with more wins.

Epstein said the competition has also been strong, especially from a team made up of graduate assistants that has won back-to-back championships. With an experienced group continuing to compete at a high level, the other teams have a challenge as they work to improve their records.

Sand volleyball has also remained competitive as teams continue working toward the end of the fall season. Josh Beno, a sand volleyball player, said his team has won two games and lost one.

Beno said the team does not make many changes after a loss, choosing instead to focus on effort and enjoying the experience.

“We don’t really make many adjustments we just go out there and have fun,” Beno said. “But if we did make adjustments they would probably just be effort adjustments.”

For Beno and his teammates, having fun is an important part of intramurals. Although the team wants to win, keeping a good attitude and giving it their best effort are priorities as the season moves on.

The race for first place in sand volleyball remains close, with three teams currently tied at the top of the standings. Hits and Giggles, IDK and Spike Squad are all competing for the leading position as the last couple of games are played.

With no team holding a drastic lead, the final matchups could prove which team finishes the season at the top. The close standings have given players another reason to stay competitive while enjoying the sport at the same time.

As the fall intramural season approaches its last stretch of games, the remaining games will give both groups one final opportunity to finish strong. Epstein’s ultimate frisbee team will try to improve on its 2-1 record, and Beno’s sand volleyball team will do the same, but also try to add to its two wins.

With championships and final standings still to be determined, the last games will bring the fall intramural season to a close and give students another shot to compete with their teammates.
