When picking a college, it’s more than choosing a major, it’s about the opportunities to explore new interests along the way. At North Greenville University, electives play a role in shaping a well-rounded college experience. They allow students to step outside their major and develop new skills while also making discoveries they may not have considered before.

One example of elective areas at NGU is communication and media. These courses include the following: Film History and Criticism, Multimedia Production, Screenwriting, and Photojournalism. These courses provide students with the skills they need to tell stories in a creative and practical way. Whether they are interested in filmmaking, social media or digital content, these classes will help develop skills that are highly relevant in today’s world.

Another option is English courses, specifically for the student who enjoys reading, writing, or analyzing stories. Classes include: World Literature, Modern Poetry, The American Novel, and Literature and Film. These courses help students with communication skills while encouraging creativity. These courses are helpful for whatever major a student chooses, since strong writing and critical thinking skills are always useful.

For the student wanting to pursue practical, career-based experiences, business electives are the right path. These courses offer students insight into how organizations operate. Other courses are market-focused, like Social and Digital Media Marketing; these are important for students interested in branding or entrepreneurship.

A major that is considered popular is psychology. These courses include the following: Social Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and Theories of Personality. These courses help students think and behave. These courses are not just opportunities to prepare for psychology or counseling, but also to develop important interpersonal skills that are important in everyday life and any profession.

The university also offers other unique electives that are outside of majors. There are outdoor courses like Camp Leadership and Programming and Environmental Stewardship. These courses provide students with hands-on learning. Additionally, there are also art electives like drawing, digital imagery and studio art. These courses provide students a chance to express themselves creatively.

The main importance of electives for the university is flexibility. Many electives within majors are free and allow students to choose classes specifically based on their interests. This means that students explore new things, strengthen a skill set, or even work toward a minor.

The best electives are the ones that can balance enjoyment with real-world value. At NGU, students are given a chance to combine creativity, practicality and personal growth within a variety of options. By taking advantage of these elective opportunities, students can shape their college experience that goes far beyond their major.
