Once you hit your twenties, it all becomes real. Taxes, a job, maybe a family and tons of other responsibilities. The most challenging reality may be finding a place to live to fit your lifestyle and help you in start a new life of your own. Here are 10 cities that we think are the place to be in your twenties. 

1. Fort Lauderdale

This sunny get-away on the southeastern coast of Florida is a perfect place for those who are looking to escape the small-town life and live large at the beach. The warm climate and recreation available would keep the average 20-year-old perfectly occupied. Recent job growth is positive and jobs have increased by 3.89 percent.

2. Columbia

Not too far from North Greenville University lies a city known for their Gamecock pride. Columbia, S.C. is a growing city where any 20-year-old can keep themselves busy. There is always some sort of sporting event going on, the weather is ideal for those who expect hot summers and warm winters and the city prides itself on being a semifinalist in a taste test for America’s best tap water. So, there’s that.

3. Myrtle Beach

If the move to Florida seems too drastic, then maybe something a bit closer would work best for you. Myrtle Beach, S.C. has enough personality to entertain any young adult. The cost of living is 7 percent lower than the nation as a whole. A temporary job to help put you on your feet can easily be found here due to the rapid growth of tourism. Myrtle also values education and always strives to promote the community.

4. Denver

If you are looking to get away (far away), then Denver, Colo. might be the place for you. Its prosperous downtown provides the perfect balance of work and play. The chill lifestyle can be easily adaptable for any young person. Since everything is closely located in the lower downtown area, or as the locals call it, “Lodo,” transportation is always kept at a minimum.

5. Syracuse

For those of you who are looking to live just four hours and 16 minutes away from New York City, then look no further. Syracuse is a major college town known for their spirit and rigor. There is always something to do or somewhere to go so any young adult would be kept perfectly occupied. Besides being known for the college atmosphere, Syracuse’s state fairs are unlike any other and literally triumph whatever dare compares.

6. Charlotte

With the population of Charlotte, N.C. growing rapidly, there is always room for more. The average age in the city is about 33, so you could say it’s a young person’s town. With banks as numerous as the amount of churches in the Bible belt, you can rest assured knowing your finances are well taken care of. The cost of living is 5.70 percent lower than the United States average and commutes are on average 24 minutes.

7. Asheville

This new trendy town seems to really grasp the attention of the younger generation, especially those with a passion for art and music. Asheville, N.C. is definitely an artist’s town, one with many exhibits and festivals to partake in. Not only does it have its playful side, it is also a town of business. Restaurants are a big deal in this town, so food lovers are welcome. And if you are ever looking for something to do, the Biltmore house is not far out of reach. 

8. Austin

In the state that is hard to miss, Austin, Texas has managed to remain its own quirky, but rapidly growing city. With cheap real estate and over 200 live music venues, what more could a 20-year-old want? Health nuts can be found all over the place, but even they have to eat the tacos, which is kind of a big deal in Austin. 

9. Athens

This city is also known for its college lifestyle because it surrounds the University of Georgia. Being a big sports town and showing their love of the color red, Athens would be great for those looking for excitement. The food always impresses both visitors and dwellers. With a restaurant like The Last Resort, who wouldn’t want to come back for more? Rent can be found anywhere between $250 to $450, and what young, recent graduate doesn’t like the sound of that?

10. Greenville

Not that I am saving the best for last or anything, but Greenville, S.C. has started to grab the attention of just about everyone all over the country. With its thriving downtown and love of good art and great food, any 20-year-old would find themselves busy with plenty to do. There is a coffee shop every where you turn around and the art bleeds from the streets. Food is a big deal and it’s not hard to find a place that can satisfy any craving.
