Many students associate the middle of the semester with stress and anxiety due to the multitude of assignments and tests to prepare for. NGU’s Center for Student Success has an event planned to help relieve your worries.

Midnight Midterm Madness will be held for the third time since its start in the fall of 2023. On Sunday, September 29, students will be able to enjoy free pizza, tutoring and a place to work on assignments or study in AV Wood from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.

The schedule for the evening is really quite simple: pizza will be served at 8 p.m., and students will stay for as long as they would like. The space will be available to students until 12 a.m., where tutors and study groups will be present for the duration of the evening.

Alicia Hyatt, the lead director for student success, said, “All the tutoring for the evening is drop-in, so that’s one benefit for these types of events: the freedom to not have an appointment required.”

Many students attend for help with specifically math and science, but there are also many students who attend to work on essays. For those who need assistance with their work but would also like a quiet place to work on their essays, AV Wood offices will be available.

Hyatt has seen this event help students by having a dedicated space filled with people who want to help. It also helps by introducing students to the resources that are readily available to them such as tutoring, peer coaching and use of the center for student success workspaces.

Hyatt recommends the Pomodoro technique when studying by yourself. This study method focuses on short periods of focused studying and breaks between. It helps by allowing the student to stay focused without losing their motivation. Studying techniques vary from person to person and subject to subject, so do a quick search for a technique that works for you before you start.

For students who are not able to make it to Midnight Midterm Madness, studying in your dorm or studying in the student center with friends is just as helpful. Tutoring is available to all students for free by appointment, and all of NGU staff wants to see you succeed.

Whether you are able to attend Midnight Midterm Madness or not, be mindful of your schedule and be ready to ace your midterms soon. Remember that your success or failure does not define the rest of your life and asking for help does not make you weak.
