From the quiet streets of Summerfield, N.C to being led to North Greenville University, Dakota Rousseau relentlessly continues to search for God’s purpose for his life.

Rousseau is a freshman majoring in international studies with a concentration in international immersion. He was adopted at 23 hours old by a Christian couple just after his birth mom left him in High Point, N.C. Then he and his family moved to Summerfield, N.C. during the later part of his childhood.

Growing up, Rousseau always wanted to be a doctor.

He said, “I’ve always wanted to help people just like my sister who is a nurse”.

In December of 2023 God had a different plan for his life. Rousseau attended a conference called “Followed 2023” that his home church hosted. It lasted three nights.

“That is when I really felt a strong connection with the Lord,” he said.

While at the conference, Rousseau felt God calling him to possibly becoming a missionary. Instead of becoming a doctor, the conference opened his eyes in a new direction of helping people.

“It was just so random and out of the blue,” he said. “It was a God moment.”

The summer of 2024 he went to his first youth camp. Leading up to the camp he was conflicted about going because of anxiety. When he got to the camp, he changed his mind because of how he felt the Lord’s Spirit.

He said, “being there I felt God’s presence, and I could confirm that God was calling me into missions.”

He feels lead to become an international missionary and reach groups who may get overlooked at times. He wants to be a missionary in Japan because there are not a lot of Christians there.

“Last time I checked it was just 1% of 133 million people who believe in Jesus,” Rousseau said. “God gave me this burden for the people there.”

He wants to help people by showing the love and peace of Jesus.

He said, “I believe in always loving people no matter how different they are from me, and I want to just try to be more like Jesus.”

He said he believes that being a missionary is God’s calling for His life. While being at NGU he will continue to show the love of Jesus in everything he does until he is able to answer God’s call. Rousseau is committed to growing spiritually and preparing himself at NGU to share God’s word to those who have yet to hear the gospel of Jesus.
