As fall finally settles in and homework seems never-ending, taking a break from school and getting off campus is a must. Just a 15-minute drive from North Greenville University, Travelers Rest offers a chance to relax and explore the town.

According to TravelersRestSC.com, a site dedicated to both visitors and locals, the town is “full of family-friendly adventures and things to do.”

A good place to start while visiting the town is the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail, a 22-mile, multi-use greenway that runs along Main St. in Travelers Rest. Whether biking or walking, the trail offers a safe and scenic route surrounded by nature. Those who don’t have a bike can rent one at Sunrift Adventures, an outdoor store located at the start of the trail.

Downtown Travelers Rest has plenty of opportunities to explore. The main street is lined with antique shops, local boutiques, cozy coffee spots and Southern-style restaurants.

Local favorite restaurants include Chicora Alley, known for its relaxed environment and southern dishes, Farmhouse Tacos, a Tex-Mex favorite, Coastal Crust, a wood-fired pizza restaurant and of course, Tandem, a well-loved creperie known for its aesthetic and delicious breakfast menu.

After grabbing a bite to eat, Pink Mama’s is just a short walk away and offers a variety of ice cream for a sweet treat.

Favorite retails store includes Urban Hare, TR Makers Co and Retro Marketplace.

Bridge City Coffee has become a staple for NGU Students. With its friendly staff and quality coffee, it’s an easy spot to spend an afternoon studying or catching up with friends.

For those looking for a bit more time outside, Spring Park Driving Range offers golf lessons and casual games or practice.

The Travelers Rest Farmers Market at Trailblazer Park adds to the town’s charming atmosphere. Open Wednesdays from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m., the market has more than 70 vendors, free yoga, live music and food trucks.

According to travelersrestfarmersmarket.com, the market is a nonprofit organization “created to provide a forum for the exchange of local products and goods, as well as educational and cultural activities for increasing knowledge about, appreciation for, and participation in the local production of natural products, while also fostering a sense of community among the residents and visitors of the Travelers Rest area.”

Along with its regular activities, Travelers Rest often hosts live music and seasonal events. The full schedule is available at TravelersRestSC.com.
