Communication students win national awards

Four students from the College of Communication at North Greenville University were finalists in the 2025 Pinnacle Awards competition sponsored by the College Media Association. All of the winning stories were published on NGU’s student website, The Vision (visionngu.com) and were in competition with media from schools of similar size.

The winners were announced at MediaFest25, a convention that took place in Washington D.C. on Oct. 15-18. The convention had representatives from the College Media Association, Associated Collegiate Press and the Society of Professional Journalists.

The NGU students’ winning stories received Pinnacle awards, which are among the highest honors for student work from the College Media Association. The goal of the competition is to recognize the best collegiate media in the nation.

Carolyn Christopher, an NGU alumni, won first place in the News Photo Package Category for her story, “The wrath of mother nature: The aftermath of Hurricane Helene in the upstate of South Carolina” (link to story).

Samantha Meyeres, senior, won first place in the Coverage of Faith category for her story, “Mission through media: NGU students using their skills for Christ in Africa” (link to story).

Treasure Hardwick, junior, won second place in the Arts and Entertainment category for her story, “Break a Leg: NGU students bring TV to life” (link to story).

Lexi Hudson won second place in the Breaking News category for her story, “Ring of fire surrounding NGU” (link to story).

Karyn Campbell, advisor for The Vision, said, “I am very proud that our students won top awards in a national contest. All of these women worked consistently well all year and they deserve this recognition.”
