Homecoming came and went this past week, Oct. 13-18, with North Greenville University students enjoying events every night of the week. There was a kickoff volleyball tournament, bowling tournament, fall fest concert, homecoming dance, all culminating with the tailgate and football game.

The Vision went into the street to interview students about their favorite events of the week, starting with the volleyball tournament.

Senior business management major Asa Dinkins said that he loves the volleyball tournament and has made it a yearly event to go.

“I love it because it’s pretty much the only one I go to every year, because it’s competition, and there’s a lot of camaraderie, a lot of energy, and it’s fun, sand volleyball is fun,” he said.

This was the first homecoming for freshmen Kathleen Dombroski and Elli Duncan, and they decided the best event for them was the bowling tournament, with the highlight being Dombroski’s strike.

“Bowling was great. I mean, there were just a lot of people there, and then you could just bowl with the people that you went with, which is what I liked about it, is that you could just bowl with your friends,” she said.

Junior business management major Matt Lockhart also made it out to the bowling event, and spared no time saying the event was a strike.

“There was a tournament between the different dorms. So I participated in that. And so it’s pretty cool to go up against some guys and just, you know, have fun but also be competitive at the same time. So that was a cool aspect. And then I ended up getting Cook Out afterwards with a bunch of guys here too, so it was a good night,” he said.

Junior Christian studies major Carson Chalos attended the volleyball tournament as well as the bowling event and concert, with the concert being his favorite.

“I thought the concert was the most fun, because there’s multiple things you could do. There was a volleyball tournament, like volleyball games going on. There was cider, there was caramel apples, and everyone’s just kind of hanging out, so I thought that was kind of fun,” he said.

Junior business management major Nick Tangney agreed, with his favorite event being the concert as well.

“They had some caramel apples. They had s’mores and a bonfire. They had some beach volleyball. They also had a band going, which was probably my favorite part listening to the music all night. It was just a really good environment, and, yeah, just a good time for everyone on campus,” he said.

Sophomores Hannah Van Ness, Christian DeWalk and Nate Reckelhoff proved that the fall concert was the overall favorite event of the week.

“They had really good snacks. They had apple cider donuts and caramel apples. They were really yummy in my tummy.”

“I liked this song selection. They chose a lot of popular music.”

The homecoming dance itself was a hit among students as well. Dane Papal attended as a date and was a fan of the community setting.

“The dance was really fun. I think it was a really good time for the community,” he said.

Freshman Caleb Crank enjoyed the dancing aspect of the dance.

“Favorite part of the dance was being in the front, jumping, put down, moshing the whole time, going crazy with with everyone else,” he said.

Crank added about the sweltering homecoming football game.

“Favorite part of the football game was honestly halftime. So I was able to get water and a drink because I was super hot. Good game. Good W, 4-0 in the conference,” he said.

Fellow freshman Darius Gentry-Small was particular about the DJ’s music choice.

“I would probably say my favorite part was definitely the homecoming dance, you know, they put on my Soulja Boy. So I’m like, Ooh, I gotta get down to that. You know, just the floor going down,” he said.

Freshman Laney Carson also enjoyed the song choice.

“My favorite part was the dance. They played some really good songs,” she said.

Overall, homecoming 2025 seems to have been a success among NGU students, with rave reviews across the board.
