The magic of St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated every year on March 17. The holiday is in honor of St. Patrick, who is the saint of Ireland. He was born in Britain in the late 4th century. He was kidnapped by Irish raiders at the age of 16 and then taken to Ireland as a slave.

After several years, he escaped. Then, later in his life, he became a Christian missionary and decided to visit Ireland to spread Christianity.

St. Patrick’s Day was originally a religious feast day in the 17th century but has changed into a global celebration of the Irish culture. Around the world there are festivals and, most popular, wearing green.

There is a symbol of St. Patrick’s Day, called leprechauns, which are based off of Irish folklore. Leprechauns are fairies that are very playful and add more to the holiday.

So, whether you are celebrating with an Irish meal, going to a festival or wearing green, St. Patrick’s Day is a wonderful holiday to appreciate both Irish history and culture.
