Destruction and devastation: Helene’s impact on Tigerville

On Friday September 27, 2024, Tigerville and many other locations in upstate South Carolina faced destruction that had never before been seen in our area. Hurricane Helene swept through and knocked out power for miles and cut off many communities from the outside world.

Our community at North Greenville University was no different.

A magnolia tree, with branches broken, shows only the beginning of the damage on the campus of NGU.

A fallen tree, with downed power lines creates a dangerous path to navigate in front of female dorm buildings on campus.

A tree that once stood at the front fountain that welcomed new and prospective students to NGU, now lays completely broken off at the roots.

A large oak tree in front of Tigerville Baptist was completely uprooted. Luckily, nothing was harmed when this tree fell.

Another large oak tree fell and damaged one of the Chinquapin road houses, and damaged a car belonging to a resident of the house.

Many thoughts and prayers go out to all in the community and the surrounding communities that suffered damage because of Helene.
