NGU hosts a political theology lecture

Jackson Gosnell, Staff Writer

Everything is political, that’s no secret. Nowadays basic principles are connected to either left or right-leaning ideology. It only seems to intensify day by day.

Students on North Greenville University’s campus participated in a political theology lecture on Mar. 21, 2023 delivered by Jonathan Leeman. Students heard about political issues and how they connect to our religion. The idea was to promote Christian values in how you view politics.

The political landscape is very divisive. There is so much controversy surrounding every issue, so as Christians, many ask how to digest that information. It seems America has abandoned its Christian values.

While the Bible doesn’t call for a particular political party or system, can people use what they know from the Bible to develop their views? The political theology speaker, Jonathan Leeman says the answer is yes.

According to Leeman, Christians should stand for the truth but recognize that there is a price to be paid that comes along with that. As the country seems to leave the Bible behind, Christians should stand for what is right.

Students at the event said they agree with Leeman. Many say they thought it was a good lecture with lots of useful information that can help them in their day-to-day lives.

“I liked most how the speaker talked clearly about the reality of the issues of the day and how there is a need for a response from Christians,” said Hunter Finley, freshman.

“What stood out to me was the fact that it would be quite simple to fix the issues of today, but there’s so little hope of actually fixing them,” said Finley.

While it seems to be the case that there is little hope of fixing the issues entangled with our country, one thing is for certain. You can always look to God for guidance and peace.
