The volleyball teams have had very impressive past seasons, but are they keeping up the good stats?

The North Greenville University’s volleyball teams have been on fire this year. As the past few seasons have been impressive, and they keep outdoing themselves as the seasons go by.

The two teams have alternating seasons to keep from overlap in the gym, meaning the women’s volleyball season is during the fall semester and the men’s team is currently still going strong.

The women’s team had a great run during their previous season, with 15-3 statistics within their conference. They are currently doing off-season conditioning and already getting ready for the next fall season.

“We had a good run last season, but we are all super excited to just get back to work and improve our will to do better next season. We don’t love having time off. If I’m not playing, I don’t know what to do with myself most of the time”, sophomore player said.

Last season, the men’s team won their conference championship and even got as far as to play in the national championship. The NGU community have been keeping up with them team and have been keeping up with where the team ends up this year.

Whenever there are games at NGU, the number of students and staff who show up to support the team is overwhelming. The amount of student engagement at the volleyball games have grown and has become more popular than basketball, the gym’s staple sport, which is quite an accomplishment.

“I’m not going to lie; I have totally been to more volleyball games than basketball games in that gym. No hate to basketball, but all my friends go to the volleyball ones and more people go and get rowdy. Students even have chants to do during the games. It’s turned into a next-level student event”, Freshman said.

So far, the men’s team’s stats are 5-2 in their conference, and they are halfway done with their regular season games.

“We have a lot of guys on our team that are from different countries and our team’s dynamic is definitely unique. We all get along really well and help navigate each other. We have multiple guys from Puerto Rico and Thailand, so sticking together is important. We all learn a lot from each other and the different cultures all mixing is really cool. We all respect each other which is good.”, Junior player said.

The men’s and women’s volleyball teams are both improving each year and are looking very promising for the next few years to come. Even with the men’s volleyball team is so new, the program was made about five years ago, making it more impressive as it has grown so tremendously, so quick.
