Are you single and not ready to mingle?

In reality, single or taken Valentine’s Day is getting taken over by the girls. Tuesday Feb 14 at 8:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. Galentine’s will be held in the cafeteria.

Hannah Staubs, student ministries coordinator, is the director for this event and has promised an exciting evening, “It gives a space to come as you are, be encouraged and to leave with some new friends. All around a 10/10,” Staubs said. Galentine’s main idea is for us ladies to connect with those around us in community and to build friendships. “Friendship is an essential part not just of college, but also of your life,” Staubs said.

With this event, a lot of planning goes into it, with many people getting involved and such intricate planning to make it a night you won’t forget. After speaking with Ivy Emerson, senior at North Greenville, we can see how those involved helped with the night. “I helped set up and was really involved last year, but I was also skeptical about Galentines at first and thought it would be sad. It was a blast though and I am also helping out more this year,” Emerson said.

With the team that is helping out this year, they had over 100 girls sign up to be there on Tuesday. “It is super important for girls who don’t have someone to feel just as loved and cherished,” Emerson said. Community is very important at NGU and Galentines is a way to connect with new girls that are on campus.

Last year Galentine’s consisted of waffles and milkshakes, it also included bad date memories. “A little sneak peak, there will be prizes, cowboy hats, delicious dessert and a fun time hanging out with friends,” Emerson said. Ladies were also encouraged to go out to eat beforehand to have a fun dinner before the desserts start.

Staubs’ plan and point of Galentines is to help those who may feel out of sorts with others that are also on campus connect with people who are older and more experienced with NGU. It is also a time to have a place to feel at home with others that may relate to how you feel or know what you are going through.

Another important aspect to Galentine’s is the focus is not primarily on dating or relationships. It helps girls focus on loving themselves and loving Jesus. We also get the opportunity to learn from the older women that are offering advice and help to those who attend.

A lot of planning goes into this event because Staubs and the other helpers want it to be a time of fellowship for the girls that signed up and a time to eat desserts that aren’t usually served on a regular basis.

Galentine’s Day will be remembered as a time of community for the gals and to focus on the goods of Valentine’s day with being single and focusing on your own path. It is also important to remember that those that are around you want to see you succeed and help you feel encouraged and this event will specifically help you find those people that will cheer you on.
