Rain on the field to the reign of a new homecoming queen: Homecoming court 2022

The 2022 homecoming queen is… Rachel Lanter.

Homecoming week was a hit this year as alumni came back and all the current students celebrated their love and school spirit for North Greenville University.

From the activities all during the week, games, corn mazes, to the intense finale football game, everyone was having a blast. Along with the fun games and contest, we can’t leave out the homecoming court.

One female student from each dorm was selected and voted by that specific dorm to run in the homecoming queen contest.

Abi Oates, one of the court nominees, said to her dorm, “Hey girls, I’m the Brashier homecoming representative, and I’d love it if you’d vote for me. Votes are due by midnight tomorrow. Thank you.”

North Greenville students were sent a link through their school email and it was the link to vote for who they think should win.

There were six nominees from the six female dorms, and whoever won got to be crowned by last year’s winner of homecoming queen, Hannah Turner. After the crowing, they get to be escorted by President of North Greenville, Gene Fant.

The homecoming court contest took center stage at halftime of the game.

The NGU student body looked froward to halftime and it was a way to ease people’s tensions to not be stressed about the football game. The same however can not be said about the nominees as tensions arose for them as they walked on the field.

All the nominees, along with their escort, then walked out to field in their high-heel shoes. The court formed a line on the field after being announced their name and dorm they represented. Each nominee gave a bio as to why they should be voted for and voice what they would be using their platform and voice what case they want to shed light on.

Senior Rachel Lanter was crowned as the winner of homecoming court during the half-time ceremony of the football game. She represented the dorm she lived in and herself because she wanted to give light to those who are victims of abuse.

Lanter’s bio was announced after she won, and the message was about victims of abuse and how she wants to help them feel safe enough to speak out and tell their stories to maybe help others. Lanter uses her talents to sing at chapel and BCM events. She loves to support North Greenville as much as she possibly can. Lanter is involved in several extracurricular activities like in all of the intramural sports. She loves to meet new people and enjoys forming community. Lanter recently got engaged over summer break. She is so excited to be crowned queen to represent her school well and be a part of North Greenville’s history.
