Where are they now? Five present-day NGU alumni

Savannah Williamson, Staff Writer

Being a student at North Greenville is only a temporary thing. You laugh, share and live in the community we have here, but what happens after graduation? Hear from five Alumni of NGU about what they did and what they’re up to now.

Lacey Godwin Stone graduated from NGU in 2018 with a major in interdisciplinary studies with concentrations in psychology and Christian studies. While at NGU, she started working at Cherokee Creek Boys School, a therapeutic boarding school in Westminster, South Carolina. After graduation, she continued to work at Cherokee Creek. She said, “The job can be very challenging at times, but I believe the Lord placed me here to be a light that shines for him.” She also leads the college and career ministry at her church. In 2020, she got married. Best wishes go to her and her husband, as they are expecting their first child in a couple of weeks.

Cariss Sanders graduated from NGU in 2020 with a degree in elementary and early childhood education. At NGU, she was an honors scholar, which is not an easy achievement. After graduating, she became a teacher, a fiancé, a wife, and a daughter in law. She currently works as a second grade teacher at Legacy Early College and is in her third year of teaching. She said, “The best thing about graduating is realizing that you are not limited by your degree. In the next year, my life will look completely different. The Lord has opened many opportunities for me to be heavily involved in my church and community, which will continue to change as he grows me.”

Kayleigh Harrill graduated in 2022 with a degree in digital media. She set a goal to graduate a year early, and did it. Before becoming a digital media major, she had ideas about being in journalism and media management. While at NGU, she met a man by the name of Brandon Brown and they are now engaged. While still at NGU, she picked up freelance photography. After graduating, she continued freelancing, and is now a freelance wedding photographer. She said, “I use the door of freelancing to reach others for the gospel with those around me, from my clients to who I come in contact with.” She has a heart for public relations, and when she moves to Augusta, she said she would be applying for public relations jobs, because she loves to advocate for businesses and the people she comes in contact with. She credits all the mentors that she had at NGU for getting her where she is today.

Veronica Rogers graduated in 2022 with a degree in theater. While at NGU, she worked in the theater department. She graduated with the intent of becoming a theater educator for the Greenville county school system, and is on the path of accomplishing her dream. Her current jobs are being a full time substitute teacher for the Greenville county school system and working with the Applied Theater Center in Greenville, where she works with special education children and ESOL (English as a second language) children and helps them through life with games and theater, and overall letting them be themselves, and teaching them how to build interpersonal relationships, work together, about job interviews, and how to be a part of society. She said, “I really love who I work with, and I love sharing God’s word with them. They are so much fun to be around.”

Now, she is currently working at Berry Shoals Intermediate School in Spartanburg SC. She teaches math and science and loves her students. She said, “Since I graduated, the Lord has done so much work in my heart and in my life. He is still showing me that I can be consistently the love and light of him, even in a place where I am not exactly allowed to start conversations about him.” She is also getting married in June of 2023 to another NGU graduate.
