Time to serve on the wave of success with NGU women’s volleyball team

The North Greenville University Women’s Volleyball season is in full swing. On Friday, Sept. 16, the team had their first home match. It was a four-set thriller against Chowan University, with NGU coming out with the victory.

“We have the best fans in conference, and there is no question about it,” said Greg Mosely head women’s volleyball coach.

Prior to the match on Friday, the women’s volleyball team spent a lot of time on the road, and according to Mosely, it was not easy. Mosely said, “We went through a few injuries and sicknesses, but the girls did a great job weathering it. They still have a great work ethic in practice and are still learning.”

The team spent ten matches on the road, playing in two tournaments. Among these ten matches, NGU Women’s Volleyball competed against #1 ranked University of Tampa, and #24 ranked Nova Southeastern University.

It was a breath of fresh air for the team to play their first home game in Hayes Gymnasium.“ We wanted to be able to come and play good in front of our home fans. It’s always good to be home in our familiar surroundings where we have a very good record,” said Mosely.

NGU athletics have had multiple successes in the last year. With that success, it has drawn more attention to the athletics, and thus more fans.

Speaking on the success and its impact, Mosely said, “There is really a cohesiveness both with athletes and nonathletes of our student body. It is kind of in its infant stages that is growing, where there is more and more energy. Of course, success breeds that. Success with our baseball team, success with our men’s volleyball team last year, success with other sports, and our success.”

Conference play has just begun. There are 16 matches left in the season, 10 of which are at home. All are encouraged to come to all home games. With more people in the crowd, that produces more energy. That energy then produces more successes at home and away. Coach Mosely encourages everyone to come support the women’s volleyball team.

Mosely said, “I would say just give it a try. It is a festive environment. It’s a place where comradery is built. We want to go thank our fans and engage with them. It is a great interaction with our student body.”

The next home game will be on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. against Emory and Henry College. Everyone is encouraged to come and support the women’s volleyball team that night, as well as for the other 9 home games left in the season.
