Global impact week: Where do you want to go?

Utah, Ecuador, Jordan, Miami, New York… the mission trips are endless! Where would you want to go?

Global Impact Week is a special week that gives students an inside look to mission trips and other cultures around the world. Allen McWhite, executive director for the institute for global leader, is the main person that handles all things missions. He helped Crystalyn Wyatt, assistant director of the institute for global leadership, with this special week. As of Feb. 2022 Wyatt has spent her time working at NGU.

She had been preparing global impact week for North Greenville University for many months. Wyatt gives us the details of how she got here. Wyatt said, “I prayed to God to take me wherever, you have my life, and I am following you,” she is passionate about missions as a whole and truly showed us during this week. Wyatt wanted to help the student body feel like they stepped into a different culture when they walked into chapel whether that was through the different languages or different types of music.

We also had the opportunities to look at different booths that gave you more information about certain mission trips or mission organizations that the student body could think about joining. There was a specific opportunity that the students could have a “passport” that had the booths on It and certain activities. If you went to all of them, you could be entered to win a $200 scholarship for a mission trip.

The big purpose of this week is helping the students understand that we could be a part of something much bigger than us and we can go hand in hand with the Lord to spread His glory throughout the nations. “Serving the Lord is fun and a blast,” said Wyatt when talking about different missions and revealing what it would be like going to the nations.

Throughout the week, we had the privilege to hear Chesed Dent, guest speaker from Liberty University, teaching on filling the earth. She started at the beginning, through Revelation, hitting all the key points that lead to filling the earth and multiplying. We also learned about the different mission trips that are being offered for the students to join: Utah, Jordan, Miami, New York City, and Ecuador.

When asked what words would best describe global impact week, Wyatt said, “fill the earth and step out.” We sometimes get nervous or scared to take that step, but global impact week is meant to show you that you can go out and serve the nations. The week impacted many different students, one being Sophia Thackston.

Thackston grew up with parents who were missionaries and travelled the world when she was younger, even during the summer. Global impact week, specifically the booths, helped her to see what stood out the most to her. Thackston has had refugees on her heart and going to the booth to learn about them more helped her to realize she would maybe want to cross her major with refugees. Thackston said, “I would love to see my psychology major and mission work with refugees be intersected,” said Thackston.

Another student that was impacted was Chely Dickert. Since she was a freshman, she has always loved global impact week. It has helped her realize that whether it is in the states or out of the country, she wants to work alongside missionaries and be the bridge for them. When asked about global impact week she had much to say, “I got to see so much of Crystalyn’s heart for missions, it was really fun to see people’s favorite parts of being overseas.”

Global impact week was very eventful and impactful. It showed many different cultures and educated students about organizations that can be joined for missions specifically, whether it was for overseas or here in the states. Wyatt did an incredible job organizing this special week and God helped make it even better.
