The amenity that causes financial drainage as well as altercations throughout North Greenville University that all students have been or will be involved in would be, that’s right- campus parking.

According to Charles Snooks, the assistant director for campus security, the campus has a total of 279 parking spots for commuters, 376 parking spots for faculty and staff, and 1228 parking spots for students. When it comes to how many parking tickets each parking lot receives, Crain and Science come first. Parking without a permit is Crain and Science’s biggest complication. Up next with the parking tickets are the Student Center parking lot with the Fine Arts parking lot in Boulevard coming in third. Those two specific parking lots have a branch of reasons on why parking tickets are flowing, which Snook did not disclose.

When asked how much money is gathered annually from parking tickets, Snooks said that type of information could not be disclosed. But the money that is received from parking tickets does not directly go to the Campus Security or the North Greenville University campus. That money is split and sent out to different companies. Regarding the handicapped parking – that’s an area that needs a lot of improvement. There are 19 handicap parking spots total, but because the paint for most parking lots has not been remodeled, those parking spots for disabilities are turned into student parking.

When it comes to the opinions of parking lot spots at North Greenville University, Snooks said he believes the regulations, generally speaking, are good and fair. But he believes the parking for commuters is a bit of an issue due to the fact that there are students who take their parking spots. His goal is to make sure commuters, as well as students, have enough space to where everyone can park in the right spot. Snooks said, “The university has grown, and the administration is working to be more accommodating.”

On the other hand, Makenzie, an R.A at the Vandiver dorm building says otherwise, “I honestly feel like NGU could prioritize their parking lots more than they do. Most of the parking lots have very fading spaces which can lead to confusion on if is it a faculty spot or student spot.”
